General Information
Simplex catalog 1953 calls this kind of shifter just a "Single Control Lever".
The shiny tin late is marked with "SIMPLEX" and a single "D", while the aluminum trigger itself has an "S" (I strongly assume for "Simplex") on the one side and a "D" on the other. Since this is a right hand single lever it might be conclusive that the "D" is for "droite" = righthand side. Inside you could find an embossed "53", which seems to represent the year of production. I have found however another one of this kind which has an embossed "82" which then is likely noit the year of production. Still, it could be a kind of lot No. or encoding the year like month 3 in year 55 or the other way around (the same possible for 82)
Notice the special shape of the brake cable head.

With the SIMPLEX on the washer, this is similar to a Simplex lever made in Italy. Interestingly in all catalogues of the 1950s that I looked through, this model was not depicted. Instead the single control lever always was with an outside washer with "Simplex - Made in France" From the design and single parts The "D" lever is however the same as the one found in the catalogues.
