Speedplay produces clipless style pedals in San Diego, CA. Their first model, the "X model" was patented by Richard Bryne in 1989 and the Speedplay pedal company was founded in July of 1991. The Speedplay Frog pedal was the lightest recessed cleat pedal system of it's time when it was introduced in 1992.
