The Mavic 825 was an early attempt at bar-mounted shifters by Mavic, for MTB use. It was part of a complete offer for MTB (or ATB as they say in the 90/91 catalogue, with dedicated hubs (ref 530), headset (ref 315/316/317), bottom bracket (ref 616 RD), crankset (ref 637), front derailleur (ref 875), rear derailleur (ref 845) and the 825 shifters.

 Mavic is best known for its lightweight aluminum rims and complete wheels, which they continue to produce today.  They also produced a full range of drive train components in the past.  Mavic made a failed attempt to popularize an electronic shifting system in the early 90's.
