founded in 1884 as "Velozipedfabrik Goldschmidt & Pirzer" in Neumarkt / Oberpfalz.
As early as the 1880s, over 100 employees built bicycles for the national market, but also for worldwide export. From 1896 as "Express-Fahrradwerke AG" in the possession of Jakob Goldschmidt, a son of the founder. 1897 already 3500 bicycles were produced by 175 employees. As early as 1900, development and production of motorized two-wheelers began, and this line of business quickly surpassed bicycles. "Express" passenger cars and trucks were also built.
In 1912, a dismountable military bicycle transportable with shoulder straps was built.
In 1918 the name changed to "Expresswerke AG" and only bicycles were built until 1930. From then on, moped and motorcycle production again predominated. In the 2nd world war as armament enterprise very destroyed. Afterwards, mainly motor vehicles are produced again, in 1957 the company is insolvent, in 1958 the majority of shares goes to Victoria and in 1959, together with DKW, the "Zweirad-Union" is created, in this year also the bycicle production ends.
