Nervex Professional Model 49/162 lug set. 23 1/2 inch centre-top frame, top tube 22 1/2 inch.
Bottom bracket is stamped with: 1266, Nervex 59° 30 64° D22 ½ E38. 1266 is the Young’s of Lewisham Frame number probably made in 1963. This bike was made with Reynolds 531 tube.59° 30 & 64° are the angles between the down tube & seat tube, & the seat tube & the rear forks, respectively. D22 ½ must be the diameter of the rear forks.E38 must be the centre to centre for the rear fork tubes. The Seat lug is stamped “A” on RHS & 72° on LHS.
The bicycle was bought for me by my father & grandfather to go on a cycling holiday to France in 1963. I remember that the bike, which was bought at Young’s on Lee High Road, Lewisham, had been reduced from about £30 to £21 having been returned soon after purchase. It was new, but briefly used. It certainly came with Weinmann 27 ¼ inch alloy rims (which I wrote off going into a drain gulley & replaced with steel rims thereafter) & Campagnolo gears with only 1 chain wheel & 5 gears. It always had Milremo centre-pull brakes with Mafac cable yokes. It had red mudguards to go with the red “Youngs” transfers, & it was always a metallic light green. Now undergoing restoration
